theHusic: Weekly Issue No. 19

Kanye pledges to drop new music every friday, hmmm this formula sounds very familiar? “MONSTER” is a MONSTER. Anyone who’s been saying Nicki is absolute garbage, can now eat their words. Big Sean gets Husic No. 19 cover honours solely for cooking up that Fat Raps Remix on his latest mixtape, Finally Famous Vol. 3. Jay Elec-yarmulke had some fire on “Higher” too. Bieber’s still a douche but we’ve got that Kanye/Raekwon assisted joint on there. Still on the fence about little Diggy Simmons but he does get some credit for snatching guest appearances from Lupe and Pharrell. Whatever you’re feeling, we got it.  Enjoy, Enjoy, Hate, Enjoy. Happy Friday urrbody!

theHusic: Weekly Issue no. 18 “Best of DJ Quik, Vol. 1″

It’s Friiiiiiieday and today’s issue of HUSIC will be on Mr. David Blake, AKA DJ Quik. Quik’s been around since the early 90′s and his music has evolved with every album he puts out but one thing remains the same, he always keeps the ‘P’ in it. He went from being a party DJ to a full on musician and you can tell by the quality of his music. What sets him apart from other producers is the amount of detail he puts in on every beat. There’s so many layers to his beats that it doesn’t matter how many times you listen to one of his songs, you’ll always hear something you didn’t notice before. If you don’t believe me, listen to Quik’s Groove V and tell me the sound of rain in the background isn’t pure genius. O yeah, he’s a pretty good rapper too…enjoy!

theHusic: Weekly Issue No. 17

Sorry for the delay with this current issue, our site renovations and overall busy schedule this past week kind of found us slacking for a minute, but we’re here. 17 Fridays ago, you may have never had such a constant flow of CD’s in your changer or playlists in your iTunes did you? And we deliver the goods once again. A hell of a lot of spare tracks are being thrown out these past two weeks. All in anticipation for mixtapes and/or big album drops in the 4th quarter. #1 on the list, is Yeezy’s Power Remix, got another slew of J. Cole, some Nipsey, some G.O.O.D. music chit. Andre 3K and Doc Dre, two mythical beings in rap now, got some presumably unfinished leaks put out. Enjoy your weekend urrbody, new formats and formulas coming soon!

theHusic: Weekly Issue no. 16 “The Smooth 90′s pt. 2″

Now this compilation brings me back to those days when I was a young lad, on the way to Filcansa. Filcansa was a Filipino youth basketball league for all that don’t know. Anyways, it was about a half an hour ride there and Cube 93.3 always played the good shit even though there was a bit of static (I didn’t mind). We didn’t really know it back then but most of those songs became classics. From Brandy, LL Cool J, Aaliyah and even Ginuine. I know y’all were singing So Anxious word for word back in the day, don’t lie.

This was the era when Diddy was called Puffy and he had the game on lock with those Bad Boy remixes. Jermaine Dupri and So So Def followed the same formula and they came out with plenty of classics. An era where Brandy just wanted to be down and Monica was just having one of those days (I didn’t take it personal). An era where Timbaland was still fat and Missy Elliot was just starting to make hit records. Foxy Brown came out with Hot Spot, I remember watching that video on TV where she’s half naked (go youtube it). There’s too many classics that came out of this era so a lot of tracks got cut but we do our best to cover the best. R&B heads, this ones for you….Enjoy!

theHusic: Weekly Issue No. 15

Damn, it’s Friday already? The summer weeks have been rushing by and the weather is following suit. Vancouver neeeeds August heat and what better way to make that happen than with another issue of theHUSIC. This week in music news, Bun B achieves the Source Magazine’s coveted “5 Mic” honours for his latest release, Trill OG. The magazine’s reviews were once heralded as thee head authority on all Rap and Hip-Hop LP’s so this is pretty huge for all artists. The last rapper to claim “5 Mics” was Lil Kim’s debut (smh…). Nevertheless, Bun has been a southern cornerstone in rap’s foundation and it’s a great thing to see dude continue on an upward slope in this industry. Wale released a heater this week too, dropping his 2nd Seinfeld-inspired mixtape, “More About Nothing”; I fully enjoy those Seinfeld soundbytes.  And I hope you fully enjoy this week’s compilation. L’Chaim!

You know what to do. Link and tracklisting in the cut.

theHUSIC: Weekly Issue No. 14 “Back in the Day – The Smooth 90s”

***UPDATE: For those who have downloaded this, please do so again as we have noticed missing tracks and an unordered list. Sorry for any inconvenience.**

It’s that time again, it’s FRRRIIIIIIDAAAYYY!! Back in the day, heading out to family parties while my older bro had the privilege to DJ or even just kickin it, I loved the smooth Hip Hop and R&B selections he played. I grew up always listening to hit singles from Jon B, So So Def, Zhane, Ghost Town Djs, SWV, Bell Biv Devoe, and tons more. It always had seamlessly blends the melodic qualities of soul and the funky rhythms of rap, leading rappers appearing alongside singers so that singing isn’t just relegated to the chorus. Clubs then kept it runnin’ on common nights, but that’s why we got Hustle on his nights to keep it going. This week’s theHUSIC: “Back in the Day – The Smooth 90s” will be perfect to kick of the last month of summer for that old school vibe.

theHUSIC: Weekly Issue No. 13

13 weeks and running. Some solid music has been releasing the past two weeks and this issue covers your bases yet again. Joey Crack’s, The Darkside, is surprisingly pretty damn good, he’s returning back to form on this LP. Officer Ricky’s got some amazing chit too, but I think I’ll have to mostly credit that to all his features on the album – Jay, Legend, Gucci, T. I., Badu, Yeezy etc. Speaking of Yeezy, Cudi and him seem to have captured another classic joint for the summer! Oh ya, and I’ve got Asher Roth’s, G.R.I.N.D., from Husic no. 7 back on there in the CDQ version. You’ll have to download our issue to hear that and the rest of the 20-track compilation. No tracklist, just trust us. Have a drunken weekend!
