Mobile Uploads: Work in progress | Stanley Park Seawall

You might’ve noticed that two sections of the Stanley Park Seawall are gated off. Some people are peeved off about it, but it’s for a good reason. It’s because we’re making history. We’re currently in the works of reconstructing close to 700 metres of existing wall along with the drainage system and walkway. The original seawall was built in the 1930′s and is in need of a face lift. Reason being is that the old wall is starting to erode on itself and could be a disaster if not attended to.

The first stretch of work starts from Second Beach to English Bay and the other just after English Bay to under the Burrard Street Bridge. Our target end date is for late fall of this year. The hardest part of the project is having to work with the tides. The ideal working situations requires low tides which are more favourable during the summer and early fall. This means early starts and graveyard shifts. In other words, “Life is a beach. I’m just playing in the saaaaand” – Weezy

When all is said and done, the $4.5 million project will be worth the wait. Trust me.

theHusic: Weekly Issue No. 19

Kanye pledges to drop new music every friday, hmmm this formula sounds very familiar? “MONSTER” is a MONSTER. Anyone who’s been saying Nicki is absolute garbage, can now eat their words. Big Sean gets Husic No. 19 cover honours solely for cooking up that Fat Raps Remix on his latest mixtape, Finally Famous Vol. 3. Jay Elec-yarmulke had some fire on “Higher” too. Bieber’s still a douche but we’ve got that Kanye/Raekwon assisted joint on there. Still on the fence about little Diggy Simmons but he does get some credit for snatching guest appearances from Lupe and Pharrell. Whatever you’re feeling, we got it.  Enjoy, Enjoy, Hate, Enjoy. Happy Friday urrbody!

Artwork: Grizzlies | Jersey frame (Piece 5 of 10)

It’s been a little bit slack in the shop since the ArtQuake event, but I’m back with piece #5 from The Framed Lined. The jersey belongs to a friend of mine who has an amazing collection. After getting the chance to browse through a closet full of them, I knew I had to do up the Grizzlies.

The jersey is mounted on painted ply and framed with ebony stained fir.

Laying in the Cut: Commercial No. 2

Here’s a little commercial to hold you over until we drop our upcoming feature on everybody’s favourite barber. As we chopped it up, literally and figuratively, Huey P got inspired by his fresh, new fade and decided to bless us with a fresh, new verse. All off-the-cuff, or off-the-dome rather.

ArtQuake | Shaking the Surface of Passion

On the 18th and 19th of August, teamHue, along with the ArtQuake crew, had seen the fruit of their labor. With the event going off without a hitch and hosting over 300 on-lookers, this event goes down in our books as a success. Such a wide array of talent and passion was showcased with a total of 14 artists, including 3 musical bands and 2 solo performers.

A huge congrats goes out to the ArtQuake crew for all their efforts! From our team to yours: keep striving and pushing your message. You guys have a great crew!

For now we have a few shots for those who didn’t get a chance to drop by. Also, we will be posting the video tomorrow. Check back in!

Gatha for…truth

I bought this little red book after attending a few yoga classes. The book is called 201 Little Buddhist Reminders and was written by Barbara Ann Kipfer. Within this book are gathas. Gathas are short verses that you can recite during the day to help you attend to the present moment. In Buddhist literature, gatha is sometimes used to mean a verse from the sutras (Buddhist scripture), but it also refers to little poems that can be used to encourage mindfulness. Some gathas are found in Zen and some belong to Buddhism generally.

The original gathas within this book are designed to focus on the activities and concerns of modern everyday life. Gathas help you stop for a few moments and check in with your body, mind, action, and intention. In this way, you can weave a meditative rhythm and sensibility into your daily routine, no matter how busy it might be.

theHusic: Weekly Issue no. 18 “Best of DJ Quik, Vol. 1″

It’s Friiiiiiieday and today’s issue of HUSIC will be on Mr. David Blake, AKA DJ Quik. Quik’s been around since the early 90′s and his music has evolved with every album he puts out but one thing remains the same, he always keeps the ‘P’ in it. He went from being a party DJ to a full on musician and you can tell by the quality of his music. What sets him apart from other producers is the amount of detail he puts in on every beat. There’s so many layers to his beats that it doesn’t matter how many times you listen to one of his songs, you’ll always hear something you didn’t notice before. If you don’t believe me, listen to Quik’s Groove V and tell me the sound of rain in the background isn’t pure genius. O yeah, he’s a pretty good rapper too…enjoy!
