There’s no doubt that Vancouver is a city that loves its bicycles. There are too many bike routes, bike lanes, and bike-friendly neighborhoods for you not to own one if you’re living in the Vancouver city-limits. Think of the all the money you save on bus passes or gas during the summer! C’mon now, I know you don’t like shelling out almost $100 on the 1st of each month or $50 every time you need to fill your tank! Whether you’re tandem bike-riding on the seawall, couriering important documents across the downtown core or riding your single-speed up Main Street, here’s five bike accessories you shouldn’t be caught without.

Carrera Foldable Helmet

It’s against the law in Vancouver to ride without a helmet. That isn’t supposed to sound like this is your mother speaking, but you should keep yourself safe and wear one even if you think you look super uncool. There are some great, inexpensive helmets if you’re on a budget. Check out any of the Bicycle Sports Pacific stores for a wide range of styles and prices.

Even though Vancouver may be bike-friendly in terms of lanes and routes, most drivers don’t pay full attention to cyclists. Invest in a good light for night rides around the city and still use hand signals if the lights aren’t enough.

The good folks at Brooks have been making bicycle seats since the late 1800s and they aren’t slowing down with manufacturing seats that age extremely well. I myself have had a Brooks saddle seat for 5 years and it’s getting more comfortable by the day. Most would prefer to have a seat that is cushioned if their bike is for every-day commuting, but there is a special leather dressing called Proofide that’ll help the seat become less stiff.

I miss the island. Two weeks ago I was on a shorter than average visit to the Philippines. My time was spent in the province of Aklan which is home to the tropical island of Boracay. Luckily for me, my last 5 days were dedicated to this beautiful island getaway and the sun was shining bright. Hop through a quick run down of the island and see why I got the vacay blues.

Before I get started, get to know the Island of Boracay:

• A small island in the Philippines located 2 km off the northwest tip of Panay Island in the Aklan Province, which became independent on April 25, 1956.
• Originally home to the Ati tribe.
• Tourism for the island started around the 70s.
• In the 80s, the island became popular as a budget destination for backpackers, and by the 90s Boracay’s beaches were being acclaimed as the best in the world.
• In 2012, the Philippine Department of Tourism reported that Boracay had been named the world’s second best beach after Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Quick Tips for visiting Boracay:

1. Stay beach front.

The most important tip I can offer when vacationing in Boracay is choosing accommodations that are beachfront or at least just a few steps away from the strip. The last thing you want to do is cheap out and stay at a place that makes you take the extra effort to maneuver your way back to your room. I would say spend the extra money to stay beach front so you can be close to everything. Nobody should have to think hard about getting home after a good night. Stay beach front. You won’t regret it.

2. Hit the d’Talipapa Market.

Imagine being in a wet market full of fresh seafood and choosing anything you want and how much of it. You name it they got it. Once you got your pickings you take it to a ‘paluto’ spot and they cook your food any way you want it. Talk about made to order. Sit down, drink and enjoy.

3. Bargain, bargain, bargain.

When it comes to anything in the markets and any of the activities offered, you need to make an attempt at bargaining. You know everybody’s gotta hustle. Just stay firm, yet respectful and you’re sure to get a better deal.

This week’s W&B, no.115 I wanted to go with a heavier sound. Found that phat bass line, used a violin sample from Cano – Ryshnychok and the synth from Gladiator VST. Check more in the cut for the sample and the beat. If you noticed, sorry for the short hiatus, please bump the beat and have a good week. Peace!

Good morning W&B listeners. Thanks again for tuning in. This week I sampled Canadian progressive rock band, Cano. The 5 second violin sample on the “Ryshnychok” was all I needed. Sample reminded me of Mike Jones – Tippin. Just looping the sample and adding hard drums was pretty much the formula of this beat. I like that trap feel on it too. Lowered the tempo to like 56 to give it that bounce. And also if you can tell, I added a small Issac Hayes sample at the end. Enjoy!

With the scene shifting to different cities and all four series squared up at one apiece, let’s look into five burning questions...

With the scene shifting to different cities and all four series squared up at one apiece, let’s look into five burning questions about Friday’s headliner between the Heat and Bulls. This series on the eastcoast is really heating up, even notorious fans are getting into the mix.

Question One

Will Derrick Rose play?

I’m off the “long term investment” train. Derrick Rose has to play.

Cleared to play over a month ago, the mental aspect he keeps referring to isn’t any different now than in November

He can’t take these chances for granted – ask Nash, Iverson, T-Mac, CP3

Even just to play Nate Robinson minutes behind Nate Robinson, three 6 minute spurts is all they need

If he’s worried about being “The Man” (which I doubt), he will still be heralded the reason why they win, whether he plays 18 minutes or 40

Have you seen these Iman Shumpert highlights lately? He got hurt a week after him last year.

He’s watched every one of his teammates gut through injuries and they still got a 4 seed, won game 7 on the road and beat MIA in game 1

Roll the dice, Derrick. Come Back. Game 3. Run all “The Return” commercials before checking in. Let the internet explode.
And before you know it, you might have a ring before turning 25.

Question Two

How healthy is Dwayne Wade?

Dwayne missed the last couple weeks of the year and even some of Round 1 and he seems far from 100%. This is nothing new with Wade, but if they want to get past the Bulls, the Heat need everything they can get from the former Finals MVP. His numbers have dipped all around in the playoffs, averaging 13 shots a game at 43% and the most telling sign of age/injury, he’s only getting to the line four times a night.

Question Three

What coaching adjustments will be made?

Spoelstra decided in game two that if Nate Robinson was going to be in the game, they were going to attack him every play, consistently sending Chalmers/Cole to set screens for Lebron at the top and include him in pick n’ rolls. Coach Thibs has been tinkering minutes between Gibson and Boozer.

My main suggestions: Chi – Attack Dwayne on the defensive end and make things uncomfortable for him. If he’s on Belinelli, run him off screens (even as a decoy), on Butler, give it to him around the high post area or on Nate the Great, ISO!@#@!
Mia – Less Chalmers/Haslem, more Cole/Birdman, get Bosh involved early and get the ball to Lebron. Got it? Good.

Question Four

How does the NBA react?

Game 2 got out of hand because the officiating wasn’t consistent. Things that weren’t being called in the first half, became reason for technical fouls in the second. Been a problem all year and has to be addressed, can’t continue to take 10 minutes deciding if it’s a flagrant 1 or 2 because Noah screamed to himself. Ridiculous.

Question Five

Do the Bulls really have a chance?

ABSOLUTELY! I’ve doubted them all year and they’ve officially made it to San Antonio’s level of never being able to count them out, especially with Coach Thibs at the helm. I don’t think basketball’s home court advantage is as much of an advantage as hockey and especially football, but when it comes to Chicago and Golden State in the West, there’s definitely merit to it. Both teams just have to win all three at home then it’s on to the next.

If not, just follow suit and post up creekside with me. I’m not much of a painter, so instead I tried to make the following images look like they are paintings. Peace, love and happiness to you.

The little shop from the Lower Eastside in New York launched their online platform last year and it’s been fairly quiet thus far, besides these great looking deadstock fabric boat hats for your warm weather expeditions. Fold up or down as you please.
