Wardrobe Functions | Patrik Ervell S/S Items

Patrik Ervell is my new favourite brand. Slowly but surely I have been able to view bits and pieces made by the Swedish born, Cali-raised designer and time after time his collection has been incredible. The subtlest of details mixed with a keen attention to pragmatic silhouettes and quality textiles. Ervell’s got a great knack for seeking out the best imported fabrics but makes it certain that all his garments are manufactured under his watchful eye in NYC. I’m not an expert, but in a theoretical world according to me I feel this is the new standard amongst contemporary menswear brands.

With that said, here’s just four of the many items I want from his 2012 Spring-Summer items.

A. Short Sleeve Button Collar Shirt
Subtle color block with contrasting green and blue stripes. Modern collar shape. Single needle tailored construction. Mother of pearl buttons. 100% cotton. The subtle contrasting green and blue stripes are immediately what capture your attention with the piece. It has hints of true school aesthetic but the contemporary tailoring is on point and a grosgrain tab on the chest pocket never did anyone wrong.

B. Rugby Shirt
Club collar rugby. Signature grosgrain tab at left chest pocket. 100% cotton. Subtleties are what I value most when considering to buy a piece that may be out of my price range. Look at how minimalistic this shirt seems and then consider what’s been put into it. White/off-white contrast, cotton fleece/cotton twill combination, side slits with reinforced woven tab for added movement and button-down chest pocket and cuffs.

C. Aviator Jacket
Traditional two pocket flight jacket with snap down collar. Two inside chest pocket and snap closures at hip pockets. Piped cotton interior. 85% cotton, 15% linen. Is it safe to say we’ve all grown likings to an Aviator Jacket at some point or other in our lives. Having laid eyes on Ervell’s rendition, I stand firm in that statement. Despite all the details that have gone into Ervell’s version it’s merely the genius addition of that impeccable pattern ribbing that has us lusting for it.
$600 USD – Purchase: HERE

D.: Pattern Rib Sweatshirt
Heavy ounce cotton fleece. Patterned rib trim. Modern silhouette underscored by a subtle mock neck collar. 100% cotton fleece, imported from Japan. Patterned ribbing is twice as nice when applied to two different pieces of a designer’s collection. Slap it onto a contemporary slim fitting sweatshirt with a high mock neck collar and you’ve got the makings of a go-to all-year round garment. Now, go forth and let our wallets deteriorate!
